Hero’s Journey Stages 9~12

Stage 9 is called the reward. This is usually where the character gets some kind of prize for surviving the ordeal. An example is from Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past where after going through the troubles in the light world the main character Link gets the Master Sword and later enters the Dark World. Stage 10 is the road back. This is where the character must return to the ordinary world. An example is from the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. At one point in his journey Link must return to the present to alter events for the future. Stage 11 is called the resurrection. It is basically a final test of what the hero has learned. An example would be from a video game called “The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time” on the N64. After the main character Link gets the 3 spiritual elements he must return to the Temple of Time to open the door to the Chamber of the Sages I think. Inside Link finds the Master Sword and is held there for 7 years. Once he gets out I consider Link to be reborn and truly realize what he must do to save Hyrule. Stage 12 is called the return with the elixer. It is where the character tries to return to the ordinary world with the prize. An example is from Earthbound on the SNES. Near the end of Ness’s journey his home town Onett was now covered in darkness and more much more powerful enemies.

Hero’s Journey Stages 5~8

The 5th stage is getting past the 1st threshold. The 6th stage is the one with allies and trials. It is where the character gets more prepared for the upcoming events. Stage 7 is approaching the inmost cave. The inmost cave is pretty much the 2nd threshold, it is more difficult to get through. The 8th stage is the ordeal where the character faces a life changing experience. An example for the 5th stage is Final Fantasy VII. At first the main character, Cloud, must escape from Midgar with his friends to find Sephiroth. An example for the 6th stage is in Rockman 3 when a new character, Blues, appears and you are not really sure if he is a friend or an enemy. Sometimes he helps Rock and sometimes he fights him. An example for stage 7 is from Rockman X5. At first X or Zero must fight 8 Mavericks before either X or Zero, depending on who you start the game with, enter the virus stages where X must fight Zero or Zero must fight X. It depends on who you start the game with. The virus stages are the 2nd threshold. An example for the 8th stage is from Rockman & Forte. The main character Rockman must learn to work with Forte to destroy King’s army of robots.

Hero’s journey stage 1~4

Stage 1 had something to do with getting the person looking at the story interested so that they want to finish the story. The character needs to be in a different world then they need some type of problem and then the threshold and the solution and there are mores steps somewhere in there. Stage 2 is when the person is called into the adventure. I would define stage 3, refusal of the call, when a character in the story refused to go on the adventure that they are supposed to go on. I would define stage 4 as the character finds a mentor which gives him or her confidence in the journey.

An example for stage 1 would be Rockman X3. The story takes place in an area called Doppler town, I think, it’s something like that. An example for stage 2 would be Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. The main character, Link, is called into his adventure by the Deku Tree when Link is still a kid. An example for stage 3 would be from Final Fantasy VII. One of the characters, Red XIII, eventually ends up at his home, Cosmo Canyon, afterwards Red XIII doesn’t want to continue on the journey even though the adventure isn’t over. For stage 4 it applies to the same situation. Red XIII’s grandfather Bugenhagen encourages him to continue on the journey. Either way they were screwed at that point anyway.

Texting and Driving

A law I would create would be the people who were texting and driving would receive a ticket and have to pay money. Sort of like the buckling up law that we have. It would obviously still be difficult to find all of the people texting and driving because they don’t have cameras in the cars I think. I am actually surprised that the government hasn’t done that yet. Drinking and driving is probably almost the same as texting and driving. Either way you don’t know what is going on in front of you on the road. The difference is when you are drinking and driving you don’t know what is going on anywhere anyway. With texting you can focus only on the texting, not what is happening on the road. Sometimes when I am walking and I am selecting a song on my ipod I have to look at my ipod for a second and sometimes I find myself not exactly walking in a straight line anymore. Anyway if I am looking at my ipod and there is a driver who is texting then they might not see me when they are turning and then you get hit by the car and die. Something that could reduce the use of texting and driving would be not allowing people to have a texting feature on phones. Another would be to not allow people to have cell phones. That probably wouldn’t work because sometimes you need to call someone in an emergency.

Hero’s Journey Stage 12 – The Return with the Elixer

One example where the ordinary world changed after almost completing the journey would be from the game Earthbound on the SNES. Near the end of Ness’s journey his home town Onett was now covered in darkness and more much more powerful enemies. Another example would be from the video game Rockman 3. After the main character Rock destroys the original 8 robot masters 8 more powerful ones from the previous game take there place. Rock must revisit some of the levels which are now changed and require Rush Adapters and robot master weapons to get through. One example of the hero changing after the journey would be from the game Conker’s Bad Fur Day on the N64. After completing the journey and getting $1,000,000 Conker realized something. He learned that even if you have a lot of money you are not going to be happy. Another example would be from the game Rockman X3. At the end of the game main character, X, realizes his fate for the future. He learned that in the future to save mankind X must destroy his best friend Zero. This happens later in Rockman X5 which I still think should have been the last game in the series. They intended to do that but they decided to continue for some reason.

The Hero’s Journey Stage 11- The Resurrection

The resurrection is a final test of what the hero has learned. The character often considers the plot of the story because this is the point where the character becomes self aware. They realize there own transformation. The 1st example would be from a video game called “The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time” on the N64. The 2nd example is from the video game “Final Fantasy VII” on the Playstation. The main character Cloud wanted to be in this organization called SOLDIER. When he finally got there he met with another member named Sephiroth. Cloud is weak to start but his journey doesn’t truly begin until after he finds out what Sephiroth was doing after he found out how he was created. Cloud was resurrected after Sephiroth killed people to get to what he believed was his mother, JENOVA. I think that is the way to describe it.

The Hero’s Journey Stage 10- The Road Backe

It is defined as the 3rd threshold. He has what the people need back in the ordinary world. That is why the character must return to the ordinary world. One example for when the character gets an elixir or treasure would be from the video game Secret of Mana on the SNES. The main character obtains the Mana Sword which I guess is the treasure and then he must destroy the evil that he awakened by pulling out the Mana Sword. The 2nd example would be from a video game Rockman X2. At one point in the game the main character X destroys Violen, Serges, and Agile to get parts back to rebuild his friend Zero who died in the previous game. I guess the treasure would be the parts for Zero. One event mentioned on the chase thing would be that the enemy was only pretending death and they turned out to be much stronger then they appeared. An example of this would be from a video game called Rockman X5. In the beginning of the game the main enemy Sigma gets destroyed on purpose by either X or Zero just to spread the Sigma Virus around and turn all of the Reploids into Mavericks. Later in the game X or Zero must destroy Sigma who appears in a much stronger form. The second form is much more powerful especially when he does that purple cube attack. Another event mentions is when the conditions in the original world got worse. An example of this would be from game called Earthbound on the SNES. At first when the main character Ness leaves his home in the original world there are only weak enemies blocking his path. Later in the game when he must return to a hill that is near his home the enemies blocking the meteor are much stronger and can destroy him easily even when he is at the maximum level.
